Hello!
My name is Kevin, and I’m an avid Super Smash Bros. competitor, specifically in the game Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. In the world of esports, I go by the alias “iDK” (and you guessed it, I main Donkey Kong).
I’ve been competing as early as back in 2010 since Super Smash Bros. Brawl, but I never really took the franchise too seriously until 2015 after Smash for Wii U, or Smash 4, came out. Since then, I’ve been traveling to over 40 various national-level tournaments trying to become the best player and person I can be, and it’s been a blast.
With all these experiences to share… I wrote a book!!!
What’s this book about?!
This book is an autobiographical approach to how the average Super Smash Bros. competitor (in this book, specifically for Smash 4) lives their lifestyle and why they love what they do. It talks about all the amazing aspects of competitive Smash as a hobby (or career if you choose to do so), including socializing, traveling, watching Smash as a(n) (e)sport, the mindset behind competition and how it can be applied to your everyday life, and improving at your craft whether it be gaming or any other skill in the world.
It’s written in a way so that people who don’t play video games can understand the content in this book; you don’t need to know any specific jargon to appreciate what this book has to offer. The competitive Smash community can be rather insular and difficult to discover, but through this book I’d like to try open the subculture of competitive Smash to the rest of the world, whether you want to take part in any way or if you simply want a better understanding of this community. I’m nowhere near a professional player, but I believe that through my perspective, this book shares experiences much more relatable than the (limited) esports books written by the professionals.
Sounds interesting? You can order a copy online from either Amazon or Barnes and Noble for $14.99 USD (sold worldwide)! If sales explode, we might even be able to get this book in brick-and-mortar (physical) stores, but I’d definitely need your help with that! An ebook version is also available on Amazon (for the amazing DLC price of $5.99 USD!), in case a physical book might be too expensive or you prefer a digital version.

With the launch of this book, I also started up a YouTube channel! Not only do I have an introductory video for the book, but I also plan on uploading travel vlogs for whenever I compete in major tournaments, or perhaps with some DK-related content as well. Check that out here.
Feel free to rest out the rest of my blog while you’re here; I’m planning to write up blogs of my travels (along with other topics from art to personal growth). Thanks for swinging by!
