Icon A Day

Icon A Day is an awesome project started by Marko Stupić of Five Agency, a mobile design and development firm. Since August of last year, Marko decided to challenge himself by drawing an icon every day for an entire year. They naturally became full-on illustrations as Marko became a stronger designer, and by the end of this month Marko will have reached his full year! The above left icon was his very first illustration for this project, and the right illustration depicts his illustration skills 11 months later.

His blog post talking about this challenge is exactly everything I would have said if he did not write it up himself. He talks about commitment, putting in consistent work, and getting feedback and support from friends and the design community. There’s no secret to becoming an amazing designer, but if there were, this project is it. His design skills definitely surpass mine, even when he just started this project, and the amount of effort he’s put into this shows as his most recent work is simply jaw-dropping.

Definitely something I will consider doing sometime in the near future, my main reason for writing up this post so I myself don’t forget about it! Check out his work by clicking the images above (or here)!

Uber Life – Labor Day

I’ve always been against owning my own car if I don’t need it. Meeting people through Uber is one of my strongest reasons to keep this lifestyle going.

I spent this past Labor Day weekend in Ontario (California) for a national Smash tournament on Saturday and Sunday, and spent the actual Labor Day in Irvine simply because that was where my friend whom I carpooled with stayed. After a long three-day weekend, I finally got back home ready preparing for a new work week.

Two Months?

Welp.

I somehow disappeared for a solid two months. It’s been a long two months, but it’s been a fantastic one at that. What in the world kept me from writing up a single post this entire time? Well, I’ve been planning to write about each of these events in individual posts in the near future (and still am!), but in the meantime here’s what’s made Summer 2015 pretty amazing so far:

SHIRT SALE!

Just finished creating my first shirt design ever for sale! This is in honor of EVO 2015the biggest Super Smash Bros. tournament of the year, happening in Las Vegas in just two weeks! For those who’ve played Super Smash Bros. for 3DS / Wii U, you’ve all probably heard of Donkey Kong being called the Avatar every now and then.

Book of the Week 3: Quiet – The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking

This week we’ll be going into a self-help book, talking about…

It’s been a whole week without any posts, my goodness! Lots of ups and downs this week. It’s okay because you’ll now be rewarded with a fantastic book review, such an intellectual book with so many insights that I haven’t experienced with a book in ages. I’m truly excited to start writing about this one; let’s just get started!

Why Do We Kill Our Legs?

Four and a half years ago in my hometown of Honolulu, Hawaii, a 92-year-old woman claimed the spot as the oldest marathon finisher at the Honolulu Marathon.

This past weekend, in my new hometown of San Diego, another 92-year-old woman stole the spot as the oldest marathon finisher at the San Diego Rock N Roll Marathon. Not only did this woman Harriette Thompson steal the record of oldest finisher by 74 days, but she also finished two and a half hours faster, resulting in a total time of 7:24:36, or about 17 minutes per mile.

Traveling the World in 2 Hours!

During Memorial Day weekend, I decided to explore downtown San Diego on my own for the first time. Living all the way up in Carlsbad, about 30 miles away, without a car makes this a long and/or expensive trip, but with the Smash tournament going on later that evening I figured I’d make the most of my day in downtown while I’m there. First stop, Balboa Park, possibly the most iconic landmark of San Diego (celebrating its 100th anniversary this year!). Known for over a dozen museums, theaters, gardens, and its zoo, even without a plan for the day I knew I’d enjoy myself there. I was just planning to check out a few museums, perhaps sit down somewhere and read, but turns out there was this fantastic event going on: the Annual Ethnic Food Fair. Coincidentally I was just dropped off from my Uber ride at the one spot in Balboa Park where this was taking place.

Book of the Week 1: The Millionaire Next Door

About once a week, I’ll be trying to review a book (book of the week, or BOTW) that I have just finished, ideally within the past month. With this, I’ll ideally be reading regularly, I’ll actually remember and refer to what I’ve read through these reviews, and you yourself get to join me on this fantastic path to reaching our ideal selves!
